Police in Wakiso have launched an investigation on a suspected case of murder by poisoning following the death of a one-year-old girl in Wakiso District.

The incident occurred on the night of Friday, April 10th, 2026, in Katwe Cell, Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council.

The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise, who is believed to have been left in a the care of a relative while her mother went for night duty over the past two days.

According to preliminary police findings, the suspect, described as the mother’s nephew, is alleged to have administered an excessive dose of medicine to the child.

Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the case. He said that the suspect admitted to giving the child medication in an attempt to make her sleep.

“The suspect confessed that the child had been disturbing him at night, prompting him to administer what he described as an overdose of medicine. Unfortunately, the child did not survive,” Owoyesigyire said on X.

According to Owoyesigyire, the matter is being treated as a serious criminal case.

“We are working to establish the exact type of substance administered and the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.

The body of the deceased has been taken for postmortem examination as inquiries into the incident continue.
