As part of the operation, FBI agents were deployed to Thailand, where they worked with partners to analyze evidence collected from the seized Shunda compound in Burma. Investigators reviewed more than 8,000 mobile phones and 1,500 computers, revealing a structured chain of command. The findings led to charges against two alleged managers, Huang Xingshan and Jiang Wen Jie, who remain in Thai custody on immigration-related offenses.
“Bwekumbule’s detention is viewed as an attempt to shield some leaders from public accountability which is unacceptable. The Association therefore demands that he unconditionally be released or produced before court if he is suspected to have committed any crime,” the statement read in part.
Betty Nambooze, the Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament, has appended her signature to the censure motion and clarified that her actions aren’t intended to condemn the four commissioners but rather to provide them with a platform to defend themselves.
