Police in Iganga has denied the National Unity Platform party President Robert Kyagulanyi to proceed to Iganga municipality for his scheduled Iganga district rally today on Friday 3rd October, 2025.
Kyagulanyi, who was traveling from Mayuge District as part of his Busoga sub region campaign trail, was intercepted at Baale Trading Center where a joint security roadblock from police and UPDF had been set up.
He was ordered to turn back and denied access to the municipality.
Addressing the gathered crowd and police officers, the NUP leader urged his supporters to remain calm and avoid confrontations with the security personnel, but warned that such provocations should not continue.
“My supporters, remain calm and do not confront the police. They are pushing us to the wall, but we shall not be provoked. This is not a sign of weakness, we still have many supporters to reach, and we will not be diverted from our objective,” Kyagulanyi said.
The NUP leader also vowed to petition the Electoral Commission, questioning why he is the only presidential candidate barred from accessing certain towns and main roads.
“As the whole world is watching, I intend to petition the Electoral Commission chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama, to explain why the police continue to block me from using main roads and accessing parts of districts where I am scheduled to pass, while other candidates move freely according to their schedules,” the NUP party president added.
Despite the setback, Kyagulanyi assured the people of Iganga that he would return before the end of the campaign period.
“This is the fifth day of our campaign and everywhere we are going they keep diverting us from the tarmac roads but for the people of Iganga I promise you we shall still come and talk to you before the campaigns end,” he vowed.
After a brief exchange with security officers, Kyagulanyi and his team retreated peacefully, maintaining his call for restraint among supporters.
Kyagulanyi is yet to conclude his Busoga tour and by the electoral Commission campaign schedule he is yet to visit Bugiri and Namayingo districts on Saturday, 4th October, 2025.
