National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu failed to hold a scheduled campaign rally in Nwoya District after a group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) supporters allegedly disrupted the event despite police presence.

Kyagulanyi, who briefly addressed supporters in Anaka Town Council on Friday, December 5th, 2025 accused the Uganda Police Force of aiding the group that blocked his rally.

“Shame upon you, Uganda Police, for aiding the goons in NRM T-shirts to sabotage my rally when you are simply looking on. This shows how impartial the Uganda Police is,” Kyagulanyi said.

He urged his charged crowd to remain calm and avoid confrontation, warning that any scuffle could be used as justification for arrests.

“Please don’t do anything that gives the police a reason to arrest you. They are holding sticks and charging at us, but ignore them because they are protected by the police, as you can all see,” he added.

The NRM supporters, some carrying posters of NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong and wearing yellow T-shirts, reportedly pushed toward Kyagulanyi’s team while raising President Museveni’s posters and chanting that they did not want political change.

Following the disruption, Kyagulanyi ordered his convoy to withdraw from Anaka and proceed to Gulu City before heading to Amuru District for his second rally of the day.

A similar confrontation occurred recently in Ssanga, Kiruhura District, where clashes between NUP and NRM supporters were followed by the arrest of more than 100 NUP supporters, some of whom have since appeared in court.

According to the Electoral Commission’s campaign roadmap, Kyagulanyi was scheduled to campaign in Nwoya and Amuru on Friday before heading to Adjumani and Gulu City on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
