Kampala International University (KIU) has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining quality service and professionalism following a wave of media reports that, according to the institution, have unfairly tarnished its reputation.

In an official statement released through the university’s X (Twitter) account, the management said KIU is addressing all raised concerns through its established institutional structures, in line with its values and commitment to transparency.

“We handle every issue through deliberate, evidence-based investigation. We assure the public of our collective commitment to integrity, trust, and reason. We have received additional feedback and remain open to ongoing, constructive engagement with all stakeholders to ensure lasting and meaningful solutions,” the statement read.

The recent controversy surrounding one of the region’s top private universities began after alleged messages from students circulated online, citing issues such as tuition payment policies, academic challenges including retakes and missing marks, and student welfare concerns.

The matter gained public attention when social commentator Jimmy Spire Ssentongo shared the allegations on his X platform. In response, KIU moved to protect its image and reputation by filing a case in the Kampala High Court, which has since issued an interim injunction restraining Spire from publishing or circulating any new information about the university.

“An interim order of injunction is issued restraining the respondent and/or any person acting on his instruction from continuing to post, publish, distribute, or circulate in print and/or social media any new and fresh information and messages injurious and/or damaging to the name and reputation of Kampala International University,” the court document reads.

However, Spire reacted to the injunction with defiance, urging the public to continue sending him more information and evidence related to the allegations.

“This is going to be an interesting one, maybe it’s what we needed in full light! At supersonic speed, an interim court injunction against my speech has already been secured, without serving or hearing me!” he said.

“Please send me more evidence to prove that we are not simply damaging their good name. Together we can defend our freedoms and speak for those without a voice.”

According to the High Court, the interim injunction will remain in effect until the main application for a temporary injunction is heard and determined. The ruling on the main application is expected on December 16, 2025.

Meanwhile, KIU has expressed gratitude to its students, staff, parents, alumni, whistleblowers, and partners for their continued trust and cooperation. The university reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, integrity, and providing a conducive learning environment for all.
