The Archdeaconry of Nyamirama Church of Uganda (COU), Diocese of Kinkiizi is preparing to join in Holy Matrimony 55 couples in a mass wedding ceremony.
The event, sponsored by Rev. Ven. Can. James Kabagambe in partnership with Can. Edmund Turyatunga, is scheduled for Friday, July 31st, 2026, at Nyamirama Church of Uganda, where the couples will exchange their vows and be united in Holy Matrimony.
Rev. Ven. Can. Kabagambe said Rt. Rev. Dan Zoreeka, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi will be the main celebrant.
According to Rev. Ven. Can. Kabagambe, couples started with a marriage retreat on 17th june 2026 facilitated by Rev. Can. Dr. Dancuns Mugumya and held their first and second marriage preparation training on July 7th and 20th, 2026, respectively at Nyamirama Archdeaconry as part of the preparations for the ceremony. The last training will be held on July 29th, 2026.
Rev. Ven. Can. Kabagambe noted that the mass wedding will mark a significant turning point in the lives of the couples, strengthening their commitment to one another and laying a firm foundation for Christian families.
“This special occasion marks an important milestone in strengthening Christian families and promoting biblical marriage within our Archdeaconry,” Rev. Ven. Can. Kabagambe said.
The organisers said the ceremony will include the presentation of marriage certificates, cake cutting, and the presentation of gifts to celebrate the newlyweds.
The Church of Uganda has continued to encourage couples who have been cohabiting or were married under customary arrangements to solemnise their unions in church. Church leaders say the initiative promotes stable Christian families, responsible parenting, and marriages founded on biblical principles. Mass weddings also provide an opportunity for couples who may have been hindered by the cost of a traditional church wedding to publicly exchange vows before God and their congregation.
The importance of marriage is underscored in Proverbs 18:22, which says: “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord.” Church leaders say the scripture reflects God’s blessing upon marriage and encourages couples to embrace the institution as a lifelong covenant of love, faithfulness, and mutual support according to Genesis 2:24.
The ceremony is expected to attract hundreds of faithful, clergy, family members, friends, local leaders, and well-wishers from across Kanungu District and beyond, making it one of the largest church wedding celebrations to be held in the area in recent years.
