Kampala Metropolitan Police has intensified operations across key divisions, arresting over 100 suspects in a sweeping crackdown targeting criminal hideouts, black spots, and individuals linked to organised crime.
Speaking to press on April 22nd, 2026, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, noted that coordinated operations covered several policing areas including Kira Road, Ntinda, Nateete, Entebbe, and Kasangati, leading to significant breakthroughs in disrupting criminal activity.
In Kira Road Policing Area, particularly Mulimira and Kyebando, a total of 31 suspects were arrested during an operation led by the Divisional Police Commander. The suspects are currently detained at Kira Road Police Division, undergoing screening and fingerprinting.
In Ntinda’s Kigowa area, a patrol team intercepted a group of suspected criminals who fled on sight, abandoning weapons and housebreaking tools including pangas, hammers, iron bars, sticks, and jerrycans containing suspected fuel. Two suspects were later arrested while hiding in a residential garage. Preliminary investigations suggest the group was allegedly planning arson attacks linked to a land dispute.
In Nateete’s Kanaala Zone, Police arrested a suspect found in possession of four suspected stolen motorcycles and multiple number plates. Authorities say verification of ownership is ongoing.
Meanwhile, in Entebbe areas of Bunono and Guda, 31 suspects were arrested in operations targeting theft, burglary, and vandalism. The suspects have since been charged and are awaiting court proceedings.
In Kasangati Division, covering Wampewo Ward, Gayaza, and Kijabijjo, more than 47 suspects were apprehended from betting centres and known criminal hideouts. Two additional suspects were arrested for operating an illegal garage used to dismantle suspected stolen motorcycles. Several motorcycle parts, number plates, and vandalised components were recovered.
Police have noted an emerging trend where criminal elements are using betting centres, unfinished buildings, and makeshift structures as operational bases.
Commenting on the operations, Owoyesigyire, stated that, “these operations have been successful, and Kampala Metropolitan Police will continue efforts to eliminate criminality and ensure public safety.”
All suspects remain in custody pending further screening and court action as investigations continue.
