Judiciary launches video conferencing system at Mukono High Court

The Judiciary has launched video conferencing system and symposium to improve efficiency and access to justice at Mukono High Court.

The initiative that is part of the Judiciary Information and Communication Technology (ICT) strategy 2015-2020, was proposed nearly ten years ago.

According to Acting Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Kajuga Okuo, video conferencing in courts will enable remote witness testimony, hearings, and participation in court proceedings, improving efficiency and access to justice.

“Video conferencing will allow individuals to participate from remote locations, reducing the need for physical transfers of detainees or witnesses,” Justice Okuo stated.

Okuo mentioned that there will be a video Conferencing Symposium to gather user feedback on the application of the Video Conferencing System in the Court Business Processes.

The feedback will guide the Judiciary on how to enhance the Video Conferencing System.

She made these remarks while presiding over the launch of video conferencing system and symposium on May 14, 2025 at Mukono High Court.

The Ag. Principal Judge proceeded to inspect the guard of honour mounted by Uganda Police Force, and later held a private meeting with the judicial officers.

The event is supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

This was followed by a video conferencing court session, presided over by Lady Justice Jacqueline Mwondha a Resident Judge Mukono Circuit) , is currently underway from Kauga Main Prison.

In attendance; Supreme Court’s Justice Christopher Madrama who doubles as the Chairperson ICT & documentation Committee,  Lady Justice Rosemary Bareebe and Lady Justice Mary Kaitesi Kisakye (Resident Judges Mukono High Court) Ag. Chief Registrar, HW Pamella Lamunu Ocaya, Ms. Annet Mpabulungi Wakabi who is representing UNDP country representative.

Various justice actors including advocates, local leaders, religious leaders and the public have turned up in big numbers to witness the launch.
