The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer, Nandala Mafabi, has outlined a series of ambitious economic and social pledges aimed at addressing poverty, supporting security forces, and empowering local communities if the party assumes power.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Amolatar, Northern Uganda, on Friday, 10th October 2025, Mafabi emphasized that his party’s policies target the root causes of Uganda’s economic challenges and aim to create opportunities for all citizens.
Mafabi linked the harsh treatment of politicians by Uganda’s security agencies including the police, prisons, and army to their low salaries they earn.
“Security officers’ harshness towards us is a reflection of problems at home; they are underpaid,” Mafabi said. “When FDC comes to power, we will double their salaries, provide housing, and ensure their children receive free education from primary to university.”
The FDC presidential flag bearer, linked Uganda’s current poverty levels to government failure in supporting agriculture and cooperatives.
He pointed out the once-thriving cotton and coffee sectors in regions like Bugisu and promised to bring them back to prosperity.
“Cotton and coffee were the backbone of our economy, cotton is white gold, coffee is black gold. We plan to revive cotton growing, Lira Spinning Mill, and the Lango Cooperative Union to restore prosperity,” he stated.
Mafabi also proposed the revival of the Agricultural and Cooperative Bank to provide farmers and entrepreneurs with cheap credit, replacing exploitative money lenders.
He also announced financial support plans for local communities, pledging UGX 100 million to each of Uganda’s 22,000 villages.
Small businesses and boda-boda operators would have access to affordable loans, including UGX 2 million loans for boda-bodas, repayable at UGX 400,000 per year.
“Small businesses will be given seed capital, and contracts will be prioritized for Ugandans,” Mafabi said, emphasizing the need to stimulate local enterprise and self-reliance.
At the same rally, FDC party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat pledged to remove presidential term limits if the party wins power, showing broader political reforms alongside economic initiatives.
Mafabi concluded by stating that the FDC’s policies aim to solve Uganda’s economic problems, improve livelihoods, and empower local communities.
From boosting agriculture to enhancing security personnel welfare and supporting small businesses, the party’s proposals seek to tackle poverty comprehensively.
“Our plan is to give Ugandans the tools, resources, and opportunities to thrive,” he said.
Mafabi is set to continue his campaign in Albetong District today, 11th October, 2025, as he takes the party’s message of economic revival and empowerment to more communities.
