The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has mourned the untimely death of His Majesty the Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
According to the FDC Party President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, King Oyo will be remembered as one of the visionary traditional leaders of this generation who led his people regardless of their political differences or religion.
“FDC stands with the people of Tooro in this time of mourning and calls on all Ugandans to remain united, calm, and in prayer as we await the official funeral arrangements from the Kingdom,” Amuriat said.
In a statement released on Friday, August 28th, 2026, Amuriat said King Oyo ascended the throne on September 12th, 1995, at 3 years old, following his father’s untimely death.
He added that over his 31-year reign of Oyo, he grew from a child king into an educated adult monarch who championed education and the fight against HIV/AIDS, youth empowerment, health and environmental protection.
Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki, the Tooro Kingdom Prime Minister, officially announced the death of King Oyo. The announcement followed a statement earlier that day revealing the king was in critical condition.
The Tooro Kingdom has not immediately disclosed the cause of the demise; however, the available media reports indicate he had been hospitalized for cancer.
Meanwhile, the Kingdom is yet to announce the funeral arrangements, and the King will be succeeded by his son, whom he left behind.
His identity will be formally revealed at a later time in accordance with Tooro traditions
