The East African Community (EAC) has organised the 3rd regional Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) conference to strengthen collaborations, improve regional integration, and promote sustainable development.

This was confirmed by Stuart Amanya, of the East Africa Community Youth League, on his official X page on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.

According to Amanya, the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) and the Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) will co-host the 3rd EAC Regional STI Conference, which will be held in Nairobi from March 6–8, 2024.

Amanya said that the conference will bring together various STI stakeholders from the region and around the world to share experiences, best practices, and applications of STI outputs.

“It will also help to strengthen collaborations, improve regional integration, and promote sustainable development,” he said.

The conference will be held under the theme “Accelerating the Development and Diffusion of Science, Technology, and Innovation Solutions for a Green, Inclusive, and Resilient East Africa.”

Amanya noted that the conference will bring together diverse actors in the STI system, including policymakers, industry players, academicians, researchers, innovators, students, and development partners.

He stated that the conference will be opened by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Education, Ezekiel Machogu. Other dignitaries scheduled to attend include EAC Secretary General Dr. Peter Mathuki, heads of participating EAC institutions, and donor representatives.

However, according to Amanya, the conference will be held in a hybrid mode through face-to-face and virtual platforms, and there will be a high-level policy dialogue, plenary sessions, an exhibition, and a ministerial session.

He further stated that the conference will bring together diverse actors in the STI system, including policymakers, industry players, academicians, researchers, innovators, students, and development partners.

Other stakeholders who are expected to attend the conference include EAC Partner States, the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, civil society, business and industry organizations, academic and research institutions, and development partners.

This biennial conference builds on the discussions and successes of the first and second conferences, held in Kampala, Uganda, in 2019 and Bujumbura, Burundi, in 2021.
