Lango Province has rescinded its earlier decision to boycott the FUFA Drum Tournament final game against Busoga Province.
The match is slated for Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.
Bobby Obira, the head coach of Lango Province, said the absence of their four players won’t stop them from emerging as champions in the forthcoming final.
He said the decision to participate in the final game stemmed from a series of meetings held between the fans and managers of the province.
Obira added that the team has remained in good shape and is currently undergoing intensive practice despite missing four players, including Denis Timothy Awany, Moses Aliro Okabo, Rogers Khasim Mato, and Denis Omedi.
The players will not be able to play in the final since they are preparing for the forthcoming international friendly games slated for March 22nd and 26th.
Opio Olol, the coordinator for Lango Province, said FUFA will designate five locations in Lango for fans to watch the finals.
“They will set up big screens at these locations and provide 75 crates of Nile Special for free to the fans. However, fans will be able to purchase a bottle of Nile Special for Shs 2800.
Earlier, the province threatened not to participate in the forthcoming finals for the FUFA Drum Tournament if their demands weren’t fulfilled by the Federation of Uganda Football Association, FUFA.
In a letter dated March 13th, signed by the Lango FUFA drum chairman, the province claimed its inability to participate in the finals after FUFA rejected their request to postpone the match.
Before this, the Lango Province had petitioned the FUFA to postpone the match, citing the incapacity of the venue to accommodate their fans and the unavailability of four of their key players.
