The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Najjanakumbi faction, led by Party President Patrick Amuriat Oboi and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi, are in Europe with the aim of strengthening democracy and opening up new Diaspora chapters to grow influence and expand the horizons of the party.

They traveled to Washington, DC, to attend the 40th anniversary of the International Democracy Union (IDU).

Mike Pence, former US Vice President, opened the 5-day IDU meeting on December 6, 2023, emphasizing support for freedom, democracy, and human dignity.

“The support for freedom, democracy, and human dignity is relevant to growing the right political philosophy and ideology,” Pence said.

On the sidelines, Nandala and Amuriat held a meeting with Ghanaian President Dr. Akufo-Addo, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Michael Holiness, and Richard Holden, Chairman of the Conservative Party of the UK, where they discussed strengthening bonds between the FDC, the UK Conservative Party, and Ghana’s New Patriotic Party.

They noted that these relationships will go towards creating a nexus for the exchange of ideas in pursuit of mutually beneficial programmes for the party.

“FDC continues to present itself as a party of choice and a model party both locally and internationally,” said the FDC leaders.

The IDU has over 80 political parties globally that bring together political parties that subscribe to center-right political philosophy and ideology, of which FDC has been a long-standing member.
