FDC Accuses Museveni of Fighting Corruption Selectively

“Let's ask Museveni what happened to Lubowa Hospital. Uganda taxpayers have paid more than UGX 1.4 trillion to Pinetti, and nothing is on the ground. Even in this financial year, Parliament is set to release an additional allocation of UGX 305 billion in promissory notes to Pinetti, with zero progress,” Centenary said.

The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has accused President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of being selective in the ongoing fight against corruption in Uganda.

According to the party Vice Chairperson, Robert Centenary, Museveni should widen the anti-corruption to target not only top government officials but also lower government officials to ensure a complete crackdown on corruption.

“Our position is clear: selective prosecution is not justice. Museveni is not fighting corruption. He is managing who among the corrupt retain his protection and who does not,” Centenary said.

While speaking on Monday, May 18th, 2026, at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Centenary said that Museveni’s move to prosecute Annet Anita Among is intended to create the impression that the government is responsible for fighting corruption, yet there have been many corruption cases in Uganda.

“Let’s ask Museveni what happened to Lubowa Hospital. Uganda taxpayers have paid more than UGX 1.4 trillion to Pinetti, and nothing is on the ground. Even in this financial year, Parliament is set to release an additional allocation of UGX 305 billion in promissory notes to Pinetti, with zero progress,” Centenary said.

He also accused President Museveni of tolerating nepotism, adding that this is the biggest form of corruption that must be dealt with to restore sanity in the country.

“The biggest form of corruption is nepotism. How can you preach against corruption, and then you go back home to a cabinet that includes your wife, a military headed by your son, a country informally run by your brother, and a succession plan built around your bloodline?” Centenary asked.

Centenary’s concern has come at a time when the fight against corruption is characterized by a highly charged atmosphere of high-profile crackdowns mixed with deep public skepticism over implementation gaps.

However, while the state is aggressively pursuing multi-billion-shilling fraud cases and targeting top-tier political figures, the country still battles systemic vulnerabilities, losing an estimated UGX10 trillion annually to graft.
