A joint operation by Uganda’s Anti-Corruption Unit, the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has led to the arrest of a man accused of orchestrating an extortion scheme built on a false murder plot.
Kizito Ronald was arraigned before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, April 13th, 2026, and charged with demanding money with menaces, which he denied.
According to prosecution, the case stems from a report Kizito made in February 2026 at Kira Police Station, in which he falsely claimed he had been hired by Mugimba Robert to assassinate Mugimba’s wife. The allegation suggested a serious murder-for-hire plot targeting Mrs. Mugimba.
However, investigators say Kizito later admitted the report was entirely fabricated. In March 2026, he allegedly approached Mugimba and demanded UGX 4 million in exchange for retracting the false accusation and withdrawing the complaint from police.
Authorities subsequently mounted a sting operation, during which Kizito was arrested as he allegedly received the money.
Prosecution argues that the scheme was a calculated attempt to exploit the criminal justice system for financial gain, while also putting the victims at risk of reputational harm and potential legal consequences.
The court remanded Kizito to Luzira Prison until April 30, 2026, as investigations continue.
Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to report similar incidents promptly, warning that false criminal complaints can have serious legal and social consequences.
