More than 2,000 residents of Bukedea District are set to benefit from free eye-care services during the 2026 medical camp organized by the Ruparelia Foundation.
The initiative, which runs from March 27 to March 29 at Bukedea Teaching Hospital, aims to provide eye screenings, basic treatment, and specialized surgeries, including around 300 cataract procedures and 50 surgeries for children.
The official launch took place on Wednesday evening at Kabira Country Club, where the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among joined the foundation and partners to kick off the campaign in honor of the late Rajiv Ruparelia, son of businessman Sudhir Ruparelia, who tragically died in a car accident last May.
While the foundation did not disclose total funding for the camp, Speaker Among contributed UGX 50 million to support the initiative.
During the launch, Jyotsna Ruparelia emphasized, the Director of the Ruparelia Group, said that the camp honors Rajiv’s philanthropic legacy and the family’s commitment to giving back to the community.
Speaker Among praised the foundation for complementing government programs by bringing essential health services closer to under served communities.
She highlighted the enduring impact of the foundation’s humanitarian work across Uganda, particularly in improving access to specialized healthcare for vulnerable populations.
The outreach is expected to significantly improve eye-care access for residents of Bukedea and surrounding districts, addressing preventable blindness and supporting children with specialized eye conditions.
