Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) celebrated a significant parliamentary win in Ajuri County and announced the restoration of key community projects, signaling renewed grassroots engagement for the party.
The announcement was made at Uganda House on 28th January, 2026, during a press briefing led by the UPC party spokesperson, Faizo Muzeyi where he highlighted the resounding victory of UPC candidate Fred Jalameso in the hotly contested rerun election on 27th January, 2026, noting that the candidate won by an impressive margin of over 900 votes.
“This result is a testament to UPC’s perseverance and commitment to upholding the will of the community, despite resistance and attempts by rival parties to undermine our gains,” Faizo said.
The UPC party spokesperson emphasized UPC’s focus on strengthening grassroots support and called on a large number of registered voters to participate in the upcoming sub-county elections on February 4th, 2026.
He noted that this step is necessary for UPC to stay connected with the people they represent.
On the party’s relationship with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Faizo clarified that UPC maintains zero formal cooperation, with only occasional communication.
“We go head-to-head with NRM in elections, but after the polls, we are open to listening to ideas that improve the welfare of Ugandans,” he said.
Meanwhile, UPC President Hon. Jimmy Akena marked the occasion by announcing the reactivation of two abandoned cattle dips in Akokoro, Apac District, and Alebtong District, regions previously affected by insurgency in the 1980s.
Supported by the Jimmy Akena Foundation, this initiative is seen as a first step toward revitalizing the regional livestock industry, boosting both food security and local wealth creation.
“This community investment reflects our commitment to restoring essential infrastructure and empowering local farmers. The livestock industry provides both sustenance and income, which is critical for regional development,” Akena noted.
The UPC leadership emphasized that the party’s electoral success and community initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen grassroots engagement, support local development, and ensure that the voices of Ugandans continue to shape the future of their communities.
