Police Boss Clears Air on Alleged Role in Prof Katerega Family Dispute

“For the record, I have never, at any time in my life, personally met Professor Katerega or his wife. Any insinuations by diversionary forces suggesting that we are known to each other are false, misleading, and should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” he said.

The Director of Criminal Investigations at the Uganda Police Force, AIGP Tom Magambo, has come out to dismiss claims linking him to the ongoing domestic dispute involving Professor Badru Katerega and his wife.

In a statement issued by Police after a WhatsApp message circulated widely on social media, AIGP Magambo said the claims seek to drag the Criminal Investigations Directorate into a matter that is clearly outside its legal mandate.

“The Director of CID, Uganda Police Force, has been made aware of a WhatsApp message circulating on various platforms, which falsely links my name to the ongoing family wrangles between Professor Katerega and his wife,” Magambo said.

He reminded the public that the Uganda Police Force had already officially addressed the matter, clarifying that the dispute is civil in nature and should be resolved through lawful civil channels.

“As the public may recall, the Police Public Relations Officer addressed the nation on this matter and clearly advised that the dispute is a civil one, best handled through appropriate civil processes. As the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, we have no mandate or powers to intervene,” he noted.

AIGP Magambo also rejected suggestions of any personal relationship with the parties involved, stating that he has never met either Professor Katerega or his spouse.

“For the record, I have never, at any time in my life, personally met Professor Katerega or his wife. Any insinuations by diversionary forces suggesting that we are known to each other are false, misleading, and should be treated with the contempt they deserve,” he said.

He urged the public to ignore the claims and remain focused on constructive national engagement rather than amplifying misinformation.

“I urge all well-meaning citizens to disregard these claims and remain focused on our shared responsibility of building our motherland, Uganda,” Magambo added.

Police leadership has continued to caution members of the public against the spread of unverified information, warning that such content not only distorts facts but also risks undermining public confidence in key state institutions.
