The National Unity Platform (NUP) Party contesting Member of Parliament for Busiro County East in Wakiso District, Sir Mathias Walukaga, has accused the incumbent Medard Lubega Sseggona of secretly influencing the Electoral Commission to kick him out of the race.
According to Walukaga, Ssegona bribed the electoral commission with large sums of money, adding that his disqualification is simply a political game which will be handled according to the law.
He made remarks while addressing the press members on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025, at the NUP Party headquarters in Makerere Kavule.
“I want to tell my voters that be strong and don’t be discouraged because the one behind this is Ssegona, because his manager, called Karimiro John, who lives in Wakiso, is one of the petitioners. And one of the Electoral Commission lawyers whose name I will not mention told me that Ssegona took money at the Electoral Commission on the day I was invited,” Walukaga said.
According to David Lewis Rubongoya, the NUP party Secretary General, Ssegona, should stop imposing himself on the people of Busiro East because they have already rejected him, adding that the party is soon convening to handle the issue legally and politically.
“You cannot impose yourself on the people if they have rejected you, through all means that you may come up with, all these things. So our advice would be to let those people go into fair competition, and if they believe that they are strong candidates, let them subject themselves instead of using the electoral commission,” Rubongoya said
However, Julius Mucunguzi, the spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, reiterated that Walukaga was disqualified due to a lack of the requisite minimum formal qualification for elective office of a member of parliament.
“The law provides for petitions because some people can be nominated wrongly, and some bring fake papers that the returning officers can not verify immediately. You see, we wouldn’t have the courts of law if human beings were angels to speak the truth,” Mucunguzi said.
According to the rules and regulations of the Electoral Commission, any aspiring candidate must have a minimum of an Advanced level certificate or its equivalent equated by the National Council for Higher Education.
However, our attempts to reach out to Ssegona to respond to Walukaga’s allegations remain futile.
