The National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi has promised to restore cross-border business and regional peace in West Nile.
During his rally on November 20th, 2025, at Wandi trading centers in Terego district, Kyagulanyi pledged to revive trade with neighboring countries Congo and South Sudan, which were formerly partners but have become hostile under current leadership.
He attributed this goal to the the importance of enhancing regional development and cross-border trade as part of his vision for West Nile.
“Congo and Sudan used to be our partners but now we are enemies because Museveni likes wars, we are going to restore trade at our borders and enhance regional development,” Kyagulanyi said.
Kyagulanyi also thanked the people of West Nile for their hospitality despite police restrictions and promised to continue accessing campaign venues without deterrence.
He noted that during his campaign, some roads were blocked by police, but supporters courageously helped him overcome these obstacles.
“Yesterday. on my way to Arua I found the road to the venues blocked and I thank the people of Arua for standing with me and without fear we walked through the road block and people power prevailed,” Kyagulanyi added.
His campaign tour in West Nile includes stops in Terego, Maracha, Koboko, Yumbe, Obongi, and Moyo districts, and he plans to return to Kampala to campaign in Kawempe after completing this regional tour. He emphasized the need for restoring peace and economic activities in the border areas, critical for local livelihoods and trade with neighboring countries.
