President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni ignited the Bukedi–Busoga political corridor this weekend with two massive campaign rallies in Busia and Bugiri districts, where unprecedented crowds turned out to reaffirm their confidence in the NRM’s leadership ahead of the 2026 elections.

From Buwanda Primary School grounds in Busia to the expansive field in Bugiri, tens of thousands of supporters thronged the venues, many arriving at dawn to hear the NRM flag bearer outline Uganda’s progress, future plans and the party’s message of Protecting the Gains.

In Busia, the atmosphere was massive as Museveni stepped onto the podium to cheers that swept through the packed grounds.

The President used the moment to remind Ugandans that the foundation of the country’s transformation was peace, unity and the rejection of sectarian politics.

He said the NRM’s deliberate push against tribalism enabled the creation of a strong, professional national army, disciplined police, functional civil service and a justice system that has protected stability for over 30 years.

“That is how we have been able to bring peace across the country, peace formed the bedrock upon which all development in Busia and elsewhere has been built,” he said.

Museveni outlined Busia’s impressive strides in social services, including the NRM’s policy of ensuring one government primary school per parish and a secondary school in every sub-county.

Busia now hosts one district hospital, a Health Centre IV and 14 Health Centre IIIs, with upgrades ongoing in Namungodi, Tiira and Lumino. A new Health Centre III is planned for Masafu, further closing gaps in access to health care.

The President also enumerated major infrastructure developments: improved roads from Jinja–Bugiri–Busia, the Musita–Namayingo–Majanji road, and ongoing works connecting Busia to Tororo.

He pointed to the repaired railway line, expanded electricity access across all sub-county headquarters, increased safe drinking water systems, and broader telecommunication coverage. “You all have telephones in your pockets,” he said, underscoring how far the district has come.

Turning to the economy, Museveni stressed that Uganda is now in a full production phase, boasting surpluses in milk, sugar, bananas and construction materials. For a border district like Busia, he said, the East African Community market is indispensable.

“We produce 5.3 billion litres of milk but consume only 800 million. The surplus needs a market. Politics must guide the future of production,” he emphasized.

NRM National Treasurer Ambassador Barbara Nekesa echoed the President’s message, saying the focus has now shifted from peace-building to wealth creation.

She cited the Majanji Water Project, the new modern market, improved tarmac networks and upgraded health facilities as the backbone upon which PDM, Emyooga and other income-generation initiatives will flourish.

The crowd’s overwhelming turnout, she noted, showed Busia’s readiness to deliver big for the NRM in 2026.

From Busia, the President crossed into Busoga, where Bugiri District erupted with yet another sea of yellow-clad supporters.

Here, Museveni emphasized wealth creation and maintained his warning against tribalism, urging the region to stay united for development.

He highlighted ongoing government projects in education, health, water access and upgraded roads that are transforming livelihoods.

Bugiri District’s massive PDM disbursement over Shs 31 billion benefiting 31,390 households featured prominently in his message.

He also pointed to plans for new secondary schools under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers Program and multiple health facility upgrades, including converting Bugoyozi, Busowa, Wagobo and Budhava health centres into HCIIIs, plus new facilities in Muwayo, Buwumi and Muterere.

Former Speaker of Parliament and First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga rallied the region to stand firmly behind Museveni, calling for unity and forgiveness. She urged voters to support all NRM candidates to consolidate the gains that Busoga has achieved under NRM rule.

Museveni heads to Namutumba and Bugweri districts on Monday, 17th November 2025. Busoga sub-region has already delivered a clear message: the crowds are massive, the enthusiasm is rising, and the NRM’s momentum is unmistakably surging.
