The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) will hold its National Delegates Conference at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi.

The event scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2025, is expected to see over 2,000 delegates converge and elect the party’s presidential flag bearer for the 2026 general elections.

Speaking at a press briefing held on Monday, July 28, FDC spokesperson John Kikonyogo confirmed that the conference will mark the climax of the internal party processes that began with the expression of interest and nomination of candidates.

“We have two candidates; Patrick Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi who have been traversing the country rallying support among delegates,” Kikonyogo said.

The party spokesperson also said that prior to the delegates conference, the party will hold a meeting of the Elders’ Forum on Tuesday, July 29, aimed at promoting unity between the two camps and exploring the possibility of fronting a single consensus candidate.

“The elders were concerned and think they should intervene and talk to the two camps to ensure that at the end of the election we have one unit,” Kikonyogo noted.

“We shall have elders from 21 FDC regions meet to discuss internal harmony and avoid splits,” he added.

In preparation for the delegates conference, the FDC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, July 30, to discuss the conference budget and agenda.

The delegates conference is expected to be a key moment for Uganda’s largest opposition party, as it positions itself ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential race in 2026.
