Leaders of the newly gazetted political party, Peoples Front for Freedom (PFF) have strongly condemned the desperate living conditions of their jailed comrade and veteran politician, Kizza Besigye.
The party’s interim spokesperson, Semujju Nganda while addressing journalists on Monday, May 26, 2025, revealed that Besigye is enduring harsh conditions in Luzira prison including bedbug infestations which have caused him several spent nights.
Semujju argued that this kind of treatment given to Besigye is not coincidental but deliberate psychological torture and a means to strip him off morale to continue the struggle.
“His life in Luzira has been made difficult. When you visit him, you only see him through a glass and also talk to him on a call box,” he stated.
In response, the party has made a unanimous decision to hold all the National Resistance Movement (NRM) parliamentarians involved in the passing of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) Amendment Bill accountable.
The party accuses these MPs of enabling legislation that has denied civilians their right to a fair trial in civilian courts.
” As PFF we are going to profile all the NRM MPs who were present in the passing of the UPDF Amendment Bill so that they can be remembered as the people who sent civilians back to the military court,” Semujju said.
Besigye and co accused Hajji Obeid Kamulegeya continue to face charges of treason against the state and remain on remand at Luzira Prison since the last six since months.
The duo was arrested in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, in November last year where they had gone to attend the launch of a book by Martha Karua, the former Justice Minister of Kenya.
