Museveni Commissions 132KV Power Plant in Rubanda

The plant built by government of Uganda with funding from the Islamic Bank costed about Shs345billion is located at Hamuko village, Hamurwa sub-county in Rubanda district.

PPresident Yoweri Museveni has commissioned the 132KV Mirama-Kabale transmission line in Rubanda district.

The plant built by government of Uganda with funding from the Islamic Bank costed about Shs345billion is located at Hamuko village, Hamurwa sub-county in Rubanda district.

Ruth Nankabirwa, the Minister for energy and mineral development said government of Uganda obtained a total of Shs300billion from the Islamic Bank and the sum of Shs45billion was contributed by the government of Uganda.

Minister Nankabirwa noted that the Shs45billion was used to compensate over 2000 families that were affected by the project.

She said a total of 85km pylon still line has been installed to support power distribution and it will support value addition.

President Museveni walks through the site in company of other government officials.

While commissioning the plant, President Museveni said this will support industrialization and also create jobs for the local people.

“There is no doubt that we are moving very well, we know what is needed to transform our people. We are very firm and clearly now that we have electricity, this 132KV will enable this area to have big industries,” he said.

“The electricity which was there before was only 33KV which was not heavy enough to support heavy industries.This  33KV is just for night clubs and nsenene and it would not support industries and therefore create more local jobs for our people,” President Museveni added.

President Museveni is in Kigezi sub region^ on a five-day tour to assess the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM) and other wealth creation activities.
