The Electoral Commission recently announced the voter update exercise set to begin from January 20th to February 10th, 2025.

To the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), the period allocated for this exercise is inadequate to enable every voter to fully participate in it.

While addressing the media on Thursday, January 15th, 2025, at the party headquarters in Kampala, the FDC Party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat said that whereas they are ready to participate in the exercise, the electoral body should consider extending the days allocated for it.

“As FDC, we are deeply concerned about the limited time allocated to this critical process. We strongly believe that the exercise requires at least two months. This process appears rushed and uncoordinated,” Amuriat stated.

Amuriat claimed that the Electoral Commission has not sufficiently involved stakeholders in the roadmap’s execution.

“The Commission has been complacent in disenfranchising voters by colluding with certain candidates to remove the details of rival candidates and voters from the electoral commission system. This malpractice was evident in the last elections, and as FDC, we remain vigilant to prevent a recurrence,” he added.

He confirmed that the FDC party will fully participate in the 2026 elections, and they have embarked on strategies intended to enhance their performance in all elective positions.

The next general elections are scheduled to take place between January 12 and February 9, 2026. This includes both presidential and parliamentary elections. The nomination process for presidential candidates will occur on October 2-3, 2025, while parliamentary nominations will be held earlier, between September 17 and October 3, 2025.
