Seven people have tragically lost their lives in a head-on collision along the Jinja-Iganga road.

The accident, which occurred at 4:00 am in Bulanga village, Mayuge District, involved a taxi (UBB 140D) and a Fuso Fighter truck (UNX 761B).

Speaking to the media on Monday, 16 December 2024, the Uganda Police Traffic spokesperson Michael Kananura confirmed that the road accident claimed seven lives in a head-on collision.

“The accident originated from the driver of the taxi, who was trying to overtake and collided head-on with the Fuso Fighter,” Kananura said.

Following the tragic incident, Kananura revealed that investigations were ongoing to establish full details of the crash; however, he emphasized the importance of road safety.

“Over speeding and overtaking in the wrong lane are the most common causes of accidents in Uganda. Despite several warnings from police, drivers are still driving recklessly,” Kananura said.

The  Jinja-Iganga Highway is notorious for accidents, with local authorities now urging  drivers to exercise caution on the roads, especially during early morning hours, to prevent further accidents.
