The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Annet Among, has urged security forces to address the security risks posed by gun violence to protect Uganda’s socio-economic well-being.
Among made the remarks during the parliament session on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, while reacting to last week’s incident that saw Albert Cook Tugume, a brother to the KCCA Deputy Lord Mayor, Doreen Nyanjura, gunned down alongside Barnabas Sabiti, a boda boda rider who tried to intervene during the fatal incident.
“Last Thursday, the country witnessed an incidence of gun violence in Ntinda, where two lives were lost. Aware that security is a vital precondition for meaningful socio-economic activity, I want to urge the security agencies to effectively tackle this criminality and bring those people to book. I want to urge the government to interest itself in that issue,” Among said.
