The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party has called for a fair and peaceful forthcoming woman Member of Parliament by-election in Kisoro district.

While addressing the media on November 6, 2024, at the UPC party headquarters at Uganda House in Kampala, the UPC Spokesperson Sharon Oyat Arach asked the police and security forces to carry out their duties to keep order during the election.

She said that the security agencies, such as Uganda Police and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), should ensure neutrality and execute their work with professionalism for a peaceful campaign and by-election.

“To all stakeholders, we call for a peaceful campaign and by-election in Kisoro district. All security agencies should exhibit neutrality in the ongoing by-election and stick to their responsibility to ensure law and order when called upon,” Oyat said.

Oyat added that all security personnel should have name tags and badge numbers for easy identification to avoid imposter personnel disguising as security operatives as seen in past elections and pledged to protect the Party votes from rigging at all costs.

“As a party, we pledge to protect the votes cast at all costs and also ask all our voters to protect their votes and report any vote rigging with evidence to the personnel on the ground,” she noted.

She then called upon all party leaders, members, and well-wishers across the country to participate and give all necessary support to the party flag bearer to achieve the ultimate goal of winning as the campaign intensifies in Kisoro district.
