An overnight intelligence-led security operation conducted across major crime hotspots in Mityana District Municipality has resulted in the arrest of 25 suspected criminals as police intensify efforts to curb rising urban crime and restore public safety.

The operation, carried out jointly by police and intelligence teams under the command of the District Police Commander (DPC) for Mityana, targeted areas that security agencies described as centres of criminal activity linked to burglary, theft, substance abuse, and mugging.

According to a statement released by Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the security mop-up focused on Kabule in Ttamu Division as well as Gombolola, Katanga, and Kibibi Garage areas in Busimbi Division.

Police said the operation followed growing public concern over increasing cases of break-ins, robberies, and narcotics-related activities within the municipality.

“In response to public outcry on crimes like burglary, breakings and thefts, substance abuse, mugging among others, police and intelligence conducted an operation targeting crime hotspot areas,” SSP Lameck Kigozi revealed in a statement.

During the crackdown, security personnel reportedly recovered suspected crime-enabling items including marijuana and housebreaking implements, which police say will be exhibited as evidence during investigations.

The 25 suspects are currently detained at Central Police Station (CPS) Mityana awaiting screening and further investigations.

Police indicated that suspects found without direct links to criminal activity will be released, while those against whom incriminating evidence is established will be formally charged and processed through the courts.

The anticipated charges include possession of housebreaking implements and abuse of narcotic substances.

SSP Kigozi said security agencies remain committed to sustaining operations aimed at eliminating criminal gangs and maintaining public order within the municipality.

“Security maintains its resolve on a crime-free environment of Mityana Municipality for a vibrant social and business life,” Kigozi stated.

Security operations targeting suspected criminal hideouts and narcotics hotspots have in recent months intensified across several urban centres as authorities respond to rising public complaints over theft, youth gangs, and drug abuse.

Police have also urged residents to continue sharing intelligence information that may support ongoing security operations and crime prevention efforts.
