The Uganda People’s Congress Party President Jimmy Akena Obote will resume his country wide tour to Teso sub region on Saturday March, 1,2025 and Sunday March 2, 2025 as he visits Kaberamaido and Kalaki districts respectively.
While speaking to the media at the party headquarters at Uganda house in Kampala on February, 26, 2025, the UPC party spokesperson Arach Oyat Sharon said that as the UPC Party President heads to Teso she appeals to police not to cancel planned venues as it could lead to violence.
“It involves many service providers for a successful event, therefore any alterations of such venues at the last moment may raise unnecessary political tempers which can lead to violence that would have been avoided,” Arach said.
Arach also cautioned the police and other security agencies to ensure that what happened in Alebtong last Saturday, February, 22nd ,2025 does not re-occur elsewhere in the country where people were dispersed from the original venue with teargas forcing them to walk over 3km to an alternative venue.
Faizal Muzeyi the head of communications and media at UPC urged the different stake holders to safe guard democracy and to remain calm and peaceful as we go into the 2026 elections.
“As UPC we call for peace before elections, during elections and after elections and we ought to know that our democracy needs to be safeguarded at all times, political space ought to be expanded to enable political leadership to reach out to grassroots and engage directly with people who are the voters.” Muzeyi said.
