The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has launched a sensitization campaign to educate manufacturers on duty remission to reduce costs and enhance productivity.
The workshop, held on April 30, 2025, at the UMA Multipurpose Hall in Kampala, provided participants with practical insights into how duty remission works and the various tax incentives available to manufacturers.
The session aimed to empower local manufacturers by providing them with essential knowledge that could help them improve their bottom line.
Among other key dignitaries Present was the newly appointed Board chairman of Uganda manufactures association Aga Sekalala Jr. who promised to work hand in hand with all stakeholders, policy makers and innovators to drive a national economic growth through a robust and dynamic manufacturing industry.
“Our focus is on empowering manufacturers by building their capacity through training and technical support, facilitating access to both local and international markets, and providing timely industrial insights. We are committed to attracting investment and coordinating efforts across stakeholders to drive sustainable industrial growth and national development,’’ Sekalala said.
One of the workshop’s participants, Ssemakula Ahmed, a businessman and industrialist, expressed his gratitude to UMA for the invaluable insights provided. Having faced challenges in the past when importing raw materials, Ssemakula noted that the workshop had given him the tools to better navigate the process and reduce his operational costs.
“This workshop has been an eye-opener. I now feel more confident about navigating the duty remission process. It will undoubtedly help my business grow,” Ssemakula said.
Participants learnt that there are different types of duty remission that can reduce business costs which include regional duty remission for goods imported and used in manufacturing approved products, country specific duty remission granted upon request when selling finished goods in another East African Country.
