The three-day orientation programme for Members of Uganda’s 12th Parliament has officially commenced at the Parliamentary South Parking Lot as newly elected legislators begin preparations for their parliamentary duties.

The induction programme, conducted at the beginning of every parliamentary term, is designed to help Members of Parliament transition into their new roles and understand the operational systems of the House.

According to parliamentary officials, the onboarding initiative seeks to familiarize legislators with the institutional culture, legislative procedures, organizational structure, and working environment of Parliament to ensure effective execution of their constitutional responsibilities.

While welcoming the members, Clerk to Parliament Adolf Mwesige urged legislators to actively participate in the orientation sessions, emphasizing the importance of understanding parliamentary processes and procedures.

“Participate keenly in this orientation programme to facilitate your operations and execution of your constitutional mandate,” Mwesige told the legislators.

The programme is expected to cover key areas including legislative drafting, parliamentary ethics, committee operations, oversight responsibilities, financial accountability, and engagement with constituents.

The induction comes amid heightened public interest in Uganda’s 12th Parliament following recent elections of parliamentary leadership and the swearing-in of newly elected MPs.

Parliamentary authorities say the orientation is intended to equip lawmakers with the knowledge and institutional understanding necessary for effective representation, lawmaking, and oversight during the 2026–2031 parliamentary term.
