The Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Electoral Commission, Tanga Odoi, has strongly rejected a circulating letter on social media that claims Bosmic Otim, the NRM flag bearer for Bardege-Layibi constituency has been disqualified from the NRM primaries.
Odoi stated that the letter was not authored or signed by him, arguing that it was a fabrication designed to cause confusion among Acholi voters.
During a press briefing at the NRM headquarters in Kyadondo on July 7, 2025, Odoi clarified that Bosmic Otim remains a candidate in the ongoing primaries. He dismissed the document as “fake” and reaffirmed that no such disqualification had occurred.
“My personal assistant has answered that question to the press in Acholi and the North. That is not my signature, I have not authored that letter,” said Odoi.
The purported letter, which has been circulating widely on social media, has caused a stir among local voters, especially in the Acholi region.
Odoi emphasized that concerns about a candidate’s qualifications could be addressed through a formal process.
“When you have a problem with a candidate questioning his qualification, there is a window; you pay 100,000 to the accountant, and you access the documents. But no one has come for Bosmic Otim’s papers up until now,” he explained.
The NRM Electoral Commission Chairman urged the public to disregard the letter and treat it with the “contempt it deserves,” stressing that such misinformation undermines the electoral process and party unity.
Dr Tanga Odoi, who has been at the forefront of managing the NRM’s primaries, also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the integrity of the party’s internal elections.
He has previously taken a firm stance against electoral irregularities, such as altering results or interfering with the process, and has promised to safeguard the rights of all aspirants to participate fairly in the upcoming elections.
His statement comes at a critical time as the NRM gears up for the general elections, with the need for transparency and fairness taking center stage to maintain public trust and party cohesion.
