Uganda's celebrations were tempered by disappointment in the boxing ring. Heavyweight boxer Aziz Abdul, the grandson of former Ugandan President Idi Amin, was disqualified during his quarter-final bout against England's Damar Thomas after the referee ruled that he had headbutted his opponent in the third round. The decision immediately ended Uganda's hopes of securing a boxing medal at the Games.

The 2026 Commonwealth Games officially opened on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, with a colorful opening ceremony at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The Games will run until August 2nd, bringing together athletes from all 74 Commonwealth Games Associations.

Chesney revealed that the games are expected to bring together over 30,000 athletes across the world with Uganda sending 50 athletes across nine categories of sports led by the world-class distance runners, para athletes, boxers and the She Cranes netball team which is currently linked sixths according to world rankings.
