Security Arrests Over 100 Suspects in Kampala Ahead of Easter

Security has arrested over 100 suspects during coordinated intelligence-led operations conducted across the Kampala Metropolitan area as part of heightened security measures ahead of the Easter festive season.

According to police, the targeted operations were carried out between 2030 hours and 0300 hours on April 1, 2026, focusing on identified crime hotspots and areas prone to public disorder within the metropolitan policing jurisdiction.

In Entebbe, operations conducted in Kasenyi and Nakiwogo led to the arrest of 23 suspects. In Mukono policing areas, enforcement teams arrested 36 suspects during coordinated deployments in Kawoola, Katoogo, Takajjunge, and Kubiri.

Meanwhile, personnel from Old Kampala Division conducted operations in New Taxi Park and Kakajo, resulting in 24 arrests, while Katwe Division operations in St. Augustine Zone led to the arrest of 14 suspects.

In Kira Division, police arrested 11 suspects during operations covering Mulawa, Kitukutwe, and Kiwologoma.

During the operations, police recovered suspected narcotic substances, including dry marijuana leaves, rolled sticks, and fresh plant materials, which were secured as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala said the operations form part of preventive security interventions intended to maintain law and order during the festive period.

“These operations are aimed at maintaining law and order during the Easter celebrations. All suspects are currently in lawful custody and will be processed in accordance with the law,” she stated.

She added that joint patrols, visibility policing, and intelligence-led enforcement actions will continue across the metropolitan area to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety.

Police have urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies and promptly report suspicious persons or activities as part of ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and secure festive season.
