Hundreds of Special Forces Command (SFC) personnel will move into new accommodation in Nakasero after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commissioned two dormitory blocks built to improve the living conditions of soldiers.

The new facilities, completed in 2025, provide accommodation for 518 personnel and are part of government efforts to improve the welfare and operational readiness of the armed forces.

While commissioning the facilities, President Museveni said proper accommodation was not simply a welfare issue but also important to the effectiveness and discipline of a fighting force.

He recalled that the National Resistance Army initially had to prioritise weapons and training because of limited resources, with improvements in soldiers’ welfare coming as the country’s means expanded.

“Now that we have a bit of money, let’s address that,” Museveni said, referring to the need to improve military accommodation.

The President noted that soldiers should be housed in organised facilities where commanders can maintain discipline and troops can remain prepared for operations.

The President also credited State House and the technical teams involved for completing the project, while State House Comptroller Jane Barekye said construction began in 2023 and was completed in 2025.

The SFC Commander, Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru said the new accommodation would contribute to the morale and professional effectiveness of personnel.

The project’s technical adviser, Prof. John Stanley Ralph Senfuma, said the facilities were constructed entirely by Ugandan workers and that quality had not been compromised.

“This work has been done by Ugandans, 100 percent,” Senfuma said, urging the authorities to maintain the facilities properly so they continue serving the soldiers for years to come.

Senior SFC commanders and State House officials attended the commissioning.
