Police in Masaka are investigating circumstances under which a 50-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in his outside kitchen.

The deceased was identified as Christopher Muyanja, a resident of Mitemula village in Nyendo Mukungwe division, Masaka city, and his body was discovered by his wife on October 15, 2024.

Preliminary reports show that Muyanja allegedly committed suicide late in the evening on October 14, 2024, when his wife was still at work.

According to one of Muyanja’s neighbors, identified as Night Nabayego, this is not the first time Muyanja has attempted to take his own life, adding that previously he was rushed to the hospital after taking poison.

Nabyego added that Muyanja might have strangled himself to death and that there is a small possibility for anyone to have killed him.

’’If the postmortem results come back and show that someone else strangled Muyanja to death, then I will believe that he did not commit this by himself,” Nabayego said.

During an interview with journalists on October 15, 2024, the Greater Masaka Police Spokesperson, SP Twaha Kasirye, confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of death.

Kasirye added that Muyanja’s wife was notified by one of her neighbors that someone had hanged himself in her outside kitchen.

“In the morning, as Muyanja’s wife was preparing her kids for school, one of her neighbors told her to inform the local leaders that someone had hanged himself in her kitchen, which she did, and police officers promptly arrived at the crime scene and took away the body,’’ he noted.
