Police Gun Down Two Suspects in Foiled Robbery Attempt in Mengo

Police in Nateete have shot dead two suspected criminals and injured another during a foiled robbery attempt on the evening of Saturday, June 28, 2025 in Lungujja, Mengo, Rubaga Division, Kampala City.

The incident occurred at around 8:00 pm during routine patrol when the officers responded swiftly to a distress call from a man at a roadside mobile money shop who had been cornered by suspected criminals.

Upon reaching the scene, officers found the victim struggling with the assailants as one of the officers attempted to confront the suspects holding a panga.

A member of the patrol team responded immediately by firing a warning shot, prompting the suspects to flee.

Police Spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the incident disclosing that a pursuit ensued at the Stabex fuel station in Mengo, where another confrontation occurred.

“In the exchange, police managed to fatally shoot two of the suspects, while a third was injured and later taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment,” Kituuma said.

“They also impounded two motorcycles; one bearing registration number UGE 294X and another without a number plate,” he added.

Police commended the swift response of the officers involved however investigations are still ongoing into incident.
