Police in Kampala have arrested more than 160 suspects in a series of coordinated night operations across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.

The operations, conducted between the night of February 15 and the morning of February 16, 2026, targeted crime-prone areas, commonly referred to as blackspots, as well as locations linked to drug abuse and violent robberies.

In a statement released on Monday, February 16th, 2026, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Rachael Kawaala said the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal networks and restore public safety.

“We conducted intelligence-led disruptive operations in identified hotspots to deter criminal activity and reassure the public of their safety. These operations are continuous and will be sustained to eliminate crime in the city and its surrounding areas, ” Kawaala stated.

In Nsangi Policing Division, joint security teams raided several areas including Kyengera, Kazinga, Nabaziza, Wakimese, Masanda, Kinaawa, Kikajjo, Kasenge and Nakasozi. The operations focused on marijuana smoking points, hideouts for suspected robbers, and locations linked to paver attacks and petty theft.

Police said a total of 80 suspects were arrested during the Nsangi operations.

“These areas have been under surveillance due to persistent complaints from the public about simple robberies, drug abuse, and violent attacks using pavers. We have taken decisive action to disrupt these criminal elements,” Kawaala added.

In a separate operation conducted by Kajansi Police at around 11:00pm, officers targeted Akright Estate and Kinyarwanda following a surge in phone snatching, number plate theft, and burglaries.

The operation involved searches in unfinished buildings, abandoned structures, construction sites, and bars operating beyond permitted hours, which police say often serve as hideouts for suspects.

Fifteen suspects were arrested and later charged with various offences.

“We acted on credible information from the community regarding increased theft in these areas,” Kawaala said.

Meanwhile, police in Nateete Division carried out early morning operations in Busega Zone 8, Mosoke Zone, Kabawo, Busega Central C, and Kibumbiro, resulting in the arrest of 71 suspects.

All suspects from the three operations are currently in custody and have been charged accordingly, police confirmed.

Kawaala emphasized that such operations will continue across the metropolitan area, warning individuals involved in criminal activities to desist or face the full force of the law.

“We shall not relent in our efforts to ensure that Kampala remains safe. Those engaging in criminal acts should abandon them or be prepared to face arrest and prosecution,” she said.

Police have also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities within their communities.
