The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has told supporters that they have a right to ask about their king as long as they are doing it respectfully.

“As a Muganda who loves your king, you have the right to ask about his life, and don’t allow to be shut down,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi made the remarks while addressing members of the press at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Kampala, on May 13, 2024.

Kyagulanyi said that no one should claim to love Buganda more than the other, adding that they all have the right to know about their Kabaka.

“Anyone who tries to isolate you from the Kabaka is his enemy; please ask for accountability about the Kabaka, but in a respectful and humble way,” Kyagulanyi noted.

He further asked the Baganda and other well-wishers to pray for Kabaka.

“We all know that our king has been sick and is not well. Whichever religion you believe in, please pray for the Kabaka to be restored to good health,” Kyagulanyi said.

Kyagulanyi’s remarks come after many Baganda loyalists asked about the whereabouts of the Kabaka, who had not been seen in public for a while. The Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, told the Buganda Lukiiko, which had raised the same public outcry, that the Kabaka had traveled abroad for treatment and that he was in good health.

Over the weekend, there were photos on social media showing Kabaka visiting Omulangira John Ndawula in Namibia, and from the photos being circulated, it was evident that Kabaka was not in good health, and many netizens went ahead to wish him good health and quick recovery.
