The National Unity Platform (NUP) party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has urged his supporters to turn up in large numbers to vote and remain at polling stations to protect their vote.

Kyagulanyi made the remarks on December 30, 2025, at St Andrew’s Catholic Church playground in Matala, Kalisizo Town Council, Kyotera District, while addressing a large crowd during his last rally of the day.

He thanked the people of Kalisizo for the strong support and asked them to turn that support into victory. He said this can only be achieved by voting in large numbers and staying behind after voting to safeguard the results.

Earlier in Rakai District, Kyagulanyi also called on residents to mobilise widely and vote for the National Unity Platform.

He urged supporters in Rakai to mobilise at least ten more voters each and help the sick and elderly to reach polling stations. He encouraged voters not to be intimidated and reminded them that the law allows them to stay about 20 metres from polling stations to observe the process. He asked them to take photos and videos and keep any evidence.

Kyagulanyi also advised his supporters through his X account to download an offline mobile application that can be used to share information even when the internet is shut down.

He said the government has previously shut down the internet during elections to block communication and prevent citizens from organising, verifying results, and demanding accountability. According to Kyagulanyi, the app, known as Bitchat, allows users to communicate, share photos of declaration of results forms, and send critical information without internet access by using Bluetooth technology.

In past elections, Uganda has experienced internet shutdowns. The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has said such shutdowns are meant to control fake news and the spread of harmful propaganda.

Kyagulanyi is scheduled to campaign on December 31, 2025, in Lwengo and Masaka districts, and will rest on January 1, 2026.
