
The Kampala Metropolitan Police have intensified operations targeting criminal gangs, drug abusers, and habitual offenders in a series of coordinated raids conducted between 4th and 5th November 2025 across several city divisions.
According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the operations focused on areas notorious for criminal hideouts and drug-related activity, especially within urban and Peri-urban communities.
“In total, 204 suspects were arrested during these operations. All are currently undergoing screening and will be processed for prosecution,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
In Kajjansi Division, police carried out sweeps in Lweza B, Kilyamuli, Akright, and Kawotto, arresting 44 suspects linked to theft, marijuana use, and public nuisance. Two juveniles were also intercepted while attempting to break into a poultry house.
In Old Kampala Division, a total of 60 suspects were apprehended in Namungona, Nakulabye, the New Taxi Park, and Mukwano Roundabout for possession of breaking implements, suspected narcotics, and attempted felonies.
Similarly, in Kabalagala Division, police operations in Nsambya, Kamwanyi, and Kataba led to the arrest of 45 suspects accused of drug possession and street mugging.
In Matugga Division, several suspects were rounded up along the Matugga–Gulu Highway, Gombe, and Lwadda for allegedly snatching phones and handbags during evening traffic hours.
In Mukono District, coordinated efforts across Goma and Central Divisions saw the arrest of 47 suspects, including 9 in Katwe-Bukerere, 8 in Namave Industrial Park, and 30 across Kitega, Wantoni, Benghazi, and Kikooza.
Meanwhile, in Kira Division, 8 suspects were arrested in Nsasa and Bulindo, and exhibits of suspected narcotics were recovered.
The KMP Deputy Police Spokesperson thanked local leaders and residents for their continued cooperation, noting that community intelligence remains crucial in dismantling criminal networks within the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
“These joint operations are part of our ongoing efforts to restore public order and ensure safety across all divisions,” ASP Owoyesigyire added.
Police say the ongoing operations will continue across all city divisions to deter criminal activity and enhance public safety.
They have also urged residents to cooperate by sharing timely information that can help in dismantling criminal networks and ensuring a safer Kampala.
