Kabale Police Hunt Woman Over Fatal Domestic Dispute Amid Rising Violent Crimes in Kigezi

This case comes amid a worrying rise in violent crimes in the Kigezi sub-region. According to police records, the area recorded 19 murder cases in July 2025, up from 17 in June, with a four-month total of 74 cases.

Kabale District Police are actively searching for a woman accused of assaulting and killing a 48 year old man during a domestic dispute, as authorities raise alarm over a series of violent crimes in the Kigezi region.

The suspect, Evelyn Ayebare, allegedly attacked Elias Natukunda, a resident of Nyakabungo Cell, Nyakasharara Parish in Kaharo Sub-county, on Friday, 12th September 2025.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. at Omukikazi Trading Centre in Butoore Cell.

Eyewitnesses told police that Ayebare struck Natukunda with a piece of wood after he reportedly insulted her. Natukunda later succumbed to his injuries.

The case was reported to Kaharo Police Station by Elvis Akankwasa. Police officers promptly visited the scene, collected statements from witnesses, and conducted a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Speaking to the media on 13th September 2025, Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and said that efforts to locate Ayebare, who remains at large, have been intensified.

“We call upon anyone with information about the whereabouts of the suspect to report to the police so she can be brought to justice,” ASP Maate said.

Among other notable incidents, 45-year-old Leonada Kobusingye was found stabbed to death on 30th July 2025 at Cheers Pub and Accommodation in Kabale Municipality. Clinton Mwesiime, a clinical officer, publicly confessed to the murder and was transferred to Kabale for further investigation.

On 8th August 2025, Kabale businessman Sophan Mutahunga and two others were charged with the murder of 36-year-old street vendor Berdan Niwamanya near Royal Oak Pub in Kigongi, Kabale. The suspects were remanded in court while investigations continue.

There were also reports of two arrests linked to a mob killing in the district, highlighting community involvement in some violent incidents.

These cases highlight a growing concern over violent crimes in the Kigezi region, prompting authorities to intensify investigations and encourage public vigilance.

Police continue to urge residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with law enforcement to curb the rising trend of murders and ensure community safety.
