The Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced his decision to step down after three decades of dedicated service to African football.

Veron Mosengo-Omba, in a heartfelt statement released on Sunday, March 29 th, 2026, reflected on his international professional career.

The 66-year-old argued that his retirement was to pursue more personal projects, dispelling the suspicion that some people have gone to great lengths to cast on him.

“Now that I have been able to dispel the suspicion, I can retire with peace of mind and without constraint, leaving the CAF more prosperous than ever,” Omba wrote.

He extended sincere thanks to CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, his teams, and all contributors for driving real and remarkable progress for CAF and organized African football.

Omba called for continued momentum in the sport across the continent.

The announcement marks the end of an era for CAF, where Omba played a pivotal role in governance and development amid recent challenges, including past controversies that he now claims to have addressed.

No immediate successor has been named. CAF has yet to issue an official response.
