The Buganda Kingdom has stepped boldly into the digital age with a new initiative aimed at using technology to improve service delivery, increase transparency, and strengthen communication with its people.

The announcement was made on July 4, 2025, via the Kingdom’s official Facebook page, following a strategic meeting held at the Buganda Heritage and Tourism Board offices in Mengo.

This was the second high-level meeting focused on digital transformation within the Kingdom. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Buganda Investments and Commercial Undertakings Limited (BICUL), Michael Roland Sebuufu, who presided over the session, emphasized the importance of responsible communication on different social media platforms.

He urged Buganda senators and officials to be more cautious about what they share online, given the growing number of citizens using digital platforms to access information and services.

Sebuufu also called on all departments within the Kingdom that have not yet digitized their financial systems to take immediate steps toward doing so.

“It is crucial that we embrace digital systems so that people loyal to the Kabaka can access services easily and efficiently,” Sebuufu noted

One of the key highlights of the meeting was a presentation by Arthur Mawanda, CEO of K2 Telecom and Chair of the Organizing Committee for the 2025 Buganda Games. Mawanda introduced a new online platform designed to simplify and modernize the buying and selling of household goods and tech products.

Additionally, Professor Vincent Kakembo addressed issues of integrity and accountability, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Buganda Games.

He stressed that only authorized and officially recognized representatives will be allowed to participate, warning that any organization found fielding outsiders would be disqualified from the competition, though no severe penalties would be enforced.

“If anyone is found participating in the games without proper authorization, they will simply be removed from the competition. We want to keep things fair and respectful,” Prof Kakembo stated.

This meeting marks another important step in Buganda’s digital journey, strengthening its commitment to modern governance, transparent operations, and improved public service delivery through technology.
