The Bamboo (Amabanda) Uganda Limited is set to hold an after-work bamboo gathering to unlock sustainable innovation by pioneering Uganda’s bamboo industry.
According to Dr. Collin Muhumuza, the General Manager of Bamboo (Amabanda) Uganda Limited, the gathering is an opportunity to celebrate achievements in the bamboo industry, foster collaboration, share insights, and explore bamboo’s potential impact on sustainable development in Uganda.
Muhumuza added that the event is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 4:00 pm, and the event will occur at Zzimwe Road, Plot 3149 in Muyenga, Kampala.
“The event will include a panel discussion with the industry leaders on sustainable practices and the socioeconomic benefits of bamboo production and showcasing products. This will be a hands-on exhibition featuring bamboo products from our member organizations like Amabanda, Bjimu, Studio Akeka, and Ekibbo, highlighting their versatility and eco-friendly nature,” he said.
During an interview with Nexus Media on Friday, November 8, 2024, Muhumuza added that their industry specializes in transforming raw bamboo into high-quality products that meet both local and international demands.
According to him, the industry produces products such as bamboo poles and strips that serve as the foundation for various applications in construction, crafts, and fencing solutions.

He said that the state-of-the-art facility produces everything from bamboo flooring solutions, laminated boards, shingles for roofing, and bamboo chips for fiber extraction, which can be used to make green composite materials.
“Amabanda is more than just an industry; it’s a movement towards sustainable economic growth in Uganda. We believe in empowering local communities through capacity building, training, and job creation. By fostering a working environment that prioritizes skill development, we aim to uplift our workforce and improve livelihoods,” Muhumuza said.

Bamboo is often referred to as “green gold” due to its rapid growth, sustainability, and versatility. As one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet, bamboo can be harvested in just 5-7 years, making it a renewable resource that significantly contributes to reducing deforestation and soil erosion.
Its strength and flexibility allow it to be used for a wide range of applications, from construction materials to fencing solutions, bamboo chips for fiber extraction, and even biochar, which is an organic fertilizer.
