The Uganda Cranes men’s national team has drawn 2:2 with the Black Stars of Ghana in an international friendly played on Tuesday 27, 2024, at the Grande de Stade Marrakech in Morocco.

This was the second friendly match after losing 4:0 to Comoros last week in the first test match.

The Black Stars took an early lead seven minutes into the match through central defender Jerome Opoku. However, the Cranes equalized through Steven Mukwala, making the score 1:1.

The Black Stars regained the lead six minutes later, making the score 2:1 at halftime.

The Cranes managed to equalize once again when Shaban Muhammad scored eight minutes into the end of the match, making it 2:2 at full time.

According to Uganda coach Paul Put, their 2-2 draw with Ghana will help them re-energize their bid for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June.

“I am happy with the result because we played one of the strongest teams in Africa, so I think the players made a good performance. But we may not be blind; for a tournament like the World Cup qualifiers, we conceded two goals again today, so we have to learn so that it doesn’t happen in June because if you concede goals, it’s very difficult to come back,” Coach Put stated.

Additionally, the coach said that the team still needs to work hard and that they are praying for the recovery of the injured players.

“I think there is progress, but there is still a lot of work to do. I hope for the recovery of injured players for the game in June,” he added.

Ghana has so far won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) four times.
