Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, the leader of National Unity Platform (NUP) party has asked the international community to only give help to Uganda with stringent conditions.
Kyagulanyi made the remarks during the Screening of Bobi Wine: The People’s President Documentary in London on December 1, 2023, following his visit to the United Kingdom (UK) after 10 years.
Kyagulanyi urged members of the international community to reach out to their leaders and ask them to kindly stop funding Uganda.
“If you reach out to your leaders, ask them to reconsider their cooperation with Uganda until it starts respecting democracy, human rights, and the rule of law,” Kyagulanyi said.
He further said that, Ugandans want to feel like human beings too, and first-world citizens, but only stuck with third-world leadership.
The NUP leader noted that, Europe needs to help countries like Uganda with the transition to democracy if it wants to reduce migration.
“Our country is very rich, so if you help us, we will not be coming here to inconvenience you. By helping us, you will also be helping yourselves and we will appreciate you,” Kyagulanyi noted.
This is the first time Kyagulanyi has stepped into London since 2014 when he was denied UK visa over controversial anti-gay lyrics in one of his songs.
Recently, a National Geographical Channel aired a documentary named Bobi Wine: The People’s President produced by Moses Bwayo and Christopher Sharp showcasing Bobi Wine’s journey from a musician to a Member of Parliament and shows what transpired during the last presidential election campaigns when Bobi wine contested for Presidency.
Bobi Wine has already screened the documentary in a few states in America and together with his supporters in the diaspora plans to continue screening the same documentary in Europe.
