Police Arrests a Suspected Bomber at Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral

The Territorial Police in Kampala has arrested a suspected bomber in connection with planting a bomb that was detonated at Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at around 11:00 am.

Police has identified the suspect as Abdulrahman Kintu, aged 28 years.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango, the explosive device (IED) which was concealed in a food flask had been planted at one of the church entrances but was safely detonated by the bomb squad.

Onyango said that Christians that had gone to attend service were evacuated and no injuries were registered.

Police noted that, upon arresting Kintu and interrogating him, he revealed his other five colleagues who are currently on the run, and led security to a home of a Seventh Day Adventist Pastor identified as James Kalanzi in Lungujja zone 8, Nvujju village, where other four bombs were discovered and detonated on site.

Preliminary information from police indicates that the suspected bomber is from the ADF camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), who entered the country two weeks ago.

Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral is under the Pastoral leadership of Pastor Robert Kayanja.

The incident follows the recent warning from that was issued by the British High Commission about the planned attack on Uganda by terrorists, and warned citizens to avoid crowded places like churches, markets, bars, taxi parks and other entertainment places.

On Saturday, September 2, 2023, security in Kampala City detonated three explosive that had been planted in the old taxi park.
