Tursker Lite is organizing a marathon dubbed Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon set for September 2, 2023, in Kasese district with an aim of promoting tourism in the region and appreciating the beauty of the land.
This was unveiled on August 23, 2023, at Uganda Breweries Headquarters in Luzira, Kampala district.
According to the organizers, the distances to be covered are 42km, 21km and 5km fun run. The marathon is also aimed at putting the right spotlight on the country.
Amos Wekesa, the Managing Director of Great Lakes Safaris Limited and the marathon officer in charge of Planning and Publicity said that, the marathon is sponsored by Tusker Lite, Standard Chartered Bank, Hima Cement, and Britam, among others.
The organizers noted that, the registration for the marathon is Ugx 60.000 and can be done online on mtrwenzorimarathon.com The kits are to be picked at Station Xpress Shop (above Standard Chartered Bank) located at Forest Mall-Lugogo bypass in Kampala, and payment is through mobile money and @ticketsasa.com.
The kit includes running shirt, running belt, bottle and medal (for all finishers).
The former Woman Member of Parliament for Kasese district, Winnie Kiiza called upon nature lovers to participate in the Marathon.
“I call on all nature lovers to join us for the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon set at the foot of gracious Rwenzori ranges and breathtaking sceneries of Queen Elizabeth National Park,” Kiiza said.
Laban Omulangira Mwami said that, the first marathon took the community by surprise because it was not well advertised but this time round many people are aware the event.
“The first marathon took the community by surprise, but now we are prepared and everyone is fully engaged and ready. The event has brought the Rwenzori people together, and we are thrilled to welcome you back home where you will be surrounded by love,” Mwami tweeted.
The Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon was born out of people’s desire to appreciate the beauty of the Rwenzori region. It was launched at the top of Rwenzori Mountain, at Margherita Peak in June 2022, and the first-ever Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon took place in Kasese on Saturday, September 3, 2022.
